The Moroccan industry is steadily recovering from the repercussions of the coronavirus and the restrictive measures related to it with 93% of jobs lost to the virus now retrieved, industry minister Moulay Hafid El Alamy said.
In this respect, 100% of jobs lost in the pharmaceutical industry were restored while the rate is 97% for the automotive industry, he told MPs.
Electronics restored 95% of jobs in the sector and 92% in the textile industry where operators have suffered for long from aggressive competition from Turkey.
On the same occasion, the minister spoke of the quality of Morocco’s anti-coronavirus protective gear, citing face masks which have been cleared for use by the French army which commended the quality.
So far, Moroccan aeronautical companies made 500 ventilators that are ready for use and Morocco can produce up to 1000 ventilators per week. However, he deplored a delay by the health ministry in issuing a permit to use these vital devices in Moroccan hospitals.
As for relocation, the minister reassured MPs regarding Morocco’s competitiveness notably in the automotive sector, saying the North African Kingdom is now outperforming its key competitors: India and China as a competitive car industry destination.
