Spain’s fishing fleet has returned to fish in Morrocan waters after the recent signing of an accord between Morroco and the European Union, La Vanguardia reported.
According to the newspaper, the new agreement will last four years and includes opportunities to improve vessel operations by extending them greater flexibility to comply with rules to unload catches in Morrocan ports.
The EU will provide Morroco with payments of some €50 million ($55.7m) as part of the deal.
Access is especially important for Spain’s Canary Islands-based fishing fleet which has 138 licenses.
