By Rudy RuitenbergGrain cargoes exported from the French port of Rouen, Europe’s biggest cereal-shipping hub, slumped 39 percent to the lowest level in four weeks as Algeria and Morocco took less wheat.
There were 116,172 metric tons of outbound grain shipments from Nov. 24 to Nov. 30 compared with 191,413 tons the previous week, the Seine River port said today in an e-mailed report. All grain cargoes consisted of wheat.
Morocco was the leading destination with 79,812 tons of wheat, down from 101,268 tons a week earlier, port data showed. Algeria, the biggest importer of French grain, took 26,550 tons, falling from 56,500 tons.
Rouen accounted for 45 percent ofFrance’s maritime grain exports in 2009-10, ahead of La Pallice on the Bay of Biscay, which shipped out 19 percent, according to data from national crops office FranceAgriMer.
