Morocco and Spain vowed Tuesday to strengthen cooperation in the area of migration.
This pledge was made during talks between Morocco’s Minister of Labor and Professional Integration Mohamed Yatim and visiting Spanish Secretary of State for Migration Maria del Consuelo Rumi Ibanez.
During the talks, Rumi Ibanez said that Morocco and Spain should cooperate for better migration management, pleading for more support from the European Union.
Describing Morocco as Spain’s strategic partner, Rumi Ibanez reiterated her country’s determination to fight illegal migration and human trafficking.
For his part, Yatim called for consolidation of Moroccan-Spanish cooperation on circular migration (seasonal employment), highlighting the positive results in terms of recruitment of Moroccan workers by Spanish companies.
He called for more efforts to consolidate this mechanism.
Spain issues seasonal work permits for more than 10,000 Moroccan women annually to pick strawberries in Spanish farms.
