Washington – The United States supports Morocco’s efforts to promote the ongoing democratic development through constitutional, judicial and political reforms, said on Friday the U.S. Department of State.

“The United States supports Morocco’s efforts to promote ongoing democratic development through constitutional, judicial, and political reforms,” Andy Halus, Deputy Spokesperson for Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, told Moroccan news agency MAP.

“We applaud Morocco on once again welcoming international election observers and a strong monitoring effort by domestic civil society groups,” he said.

He also pointed out that “the full implementation of the new constitution” is “a step toward the fulfillment of the aspirations and rights of all Moroccans.”

As put by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton following Morocco’s July 1st constitutional referendum, Halus said, “we encourage the Moroccan government to strengthen the rule of law, raise human rights standards, promote good governance, and work toward sustained democratic reform that incorporates checks and balances.
