Morocco’s finance minister and a front-runner to be prime minister after upcoming elections ruled out Thursday any kind of coalition with the country’s powerful Islamist party.

Salaheddine Mezouar’s party and the Islamist Justice and Development Party are both expected to do well in Friday’s elections, but the minister said he would not ally himself with the “conservatives” because his party wanted a “democratic and open society.” (AP)
