Washington – The holding on Friday of the general electionsis a “historic moment” marking the culmination of a long-lasting process of democratic reforms launched under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, said Peter Pham, Peter Pham, director of the Michael S. Ansari Africa Center at the Atlantic Council in Washington.
Friday’s elections are a historic moment not only for Morocco, but also at the region level, as the Kingdom did not wait for the “Arab Spring” in order to initiate the democratic process, Pham on Wednesday told Moroccan news agency MAP.
This process of reforms launched since several years is now reaching maturity, he said.
Since his enthronement, the Sovereign introduces many reforms to upgrade the political field, crowned by the adoption of a new constitution last July, paving the way for the general elections which will further reinforce democracy and meet the aspirations of Moroccans, he said.
