WAM Abu Dhabi, Nov 23rd, 2011 (WAM) — A delegation from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre in Abu Dhabi has participated in a workshop at Al-Qarawiyyin University, Fez in Morocco.
The visit came as part of the Centre’s plan which is aimed at consulting with the most important international research centres in the cultural and academic fields.
During the workshop which lasted for some hours, the delegation, which included Yousef Al Obaidli, Director of the Centre, and Talal Al Mazrouei, Director of the Activities and Events Department, met with both Dr Ali al-Saqalli, Chancellor of Al-Qarawiyyin University and Dr Idris Al-Zu’ri Al Mubaraki, Vice- Chancellor of the University.
The meeting comes to complement the consultations which were held last December with officials and experts in Al-Qarawiyyin University to discuss what was achieved regarding the study of establishing a religious institute and a centre for teaching the Holy Quran at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Cooperation between the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre and Al-Qarawiyyin University in Fez, which is considered to be the oldest university established in the history of the Islamic World, is aimed at achieving a quality and distinguished addition in the field of scientific research and contributing to the development of the Islamic thought and sciences in the Arab and Muslim worlds.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre delegation praised Al-Qarawiyyin University and the role it plays in all fields. The delegation pointed out that the University had represented a source of Islamic culture in Morocco and a centre for intellectual, cultural, and religious activity in the Arab and Muslim worlds since its establishment.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, is sponsored and followed up by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The centre was established to be a nucleus for a cultural and intellectual movement focused on the Mosque. This is based on the cultural and national values expressed in the concepts and values established by late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless his soul. It is these values that are deep-rooted in sentiment and consciousness, and form an extension of the national identity inspired from the teachings of our tolerant religion.
