The visiting Libyan parliament speaker said on Tuesday that Morocco could play a leading role in accelerating the process of solving the crisis in the war-torn country.
“We have officially requested Morocco take the lead in calling on the Libyan stakeholders and the UN envoy to speed up the process of solving the crisis and to introduce amendments on the Libyan Political Agreement,” Akila Saleh, speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives, told the press conference held in Morocco’s capital Rabat.
Saleh expected an end to the crisis before the end of this year as the situation in Libya is improving.
He also thanked Morocco for its constructive role in finding a solution to the Libyan crisis.
Saleh, along with Khalid Al-Mishri, head of Libya High Council of State, concluded his official trip to Morocco on Tuesday.
In 2015, the Libyan Political Agreement was reached between conflicting parties in the UN-brokered peace talks held in Morocco’s city of Skhirat.
