The Kingdom of Morroco is a place filled with wonder.

Despite being largely known for its rugged mountainous interior and scattered desert, Morocco has a beautiful, lengthy coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.

The country’s coast, culture, and history are some of its biggest drivers when it comes to tourism.

Such attractions have made tourism the second largest foreign exchange earner in the country and the government has set out for even greater growth through its Vision 2020, which has set out to to make the country one of the top 20 tourist destinations in the world.

Kasbah of the Udayas, a type of medin or fortress located at the mouth of the Bou Regreg river in the country’s capital, Rabat, is a popular destination for tourists.

Elsewhere in Morocco, popular sites include the Majorelle Garden, a two and half acre botanical garden which took French painter Jacques Majorelle forty years to create, the Ouzoud Falls, a waterfall in the middle of the desert with monkeys sauntering about its valleys, and the Todgha Gorges, a series of spectacular limestone river canyons located in the High Atlas Mountains.

There’s plenty to get up to in Morocco from hiking, climbing and skiing over the Toubkal, to taking camel rides across the Saharan dunes of Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga.

For those keen on windsurfing, Essaouira, a beautiful city on the Atlantic coast, is a popular destination. Several modern hotels and resorts can be found along the sea front and within the city. Essaouira has maintained it’s old school charm and is an ideal destination for those also looking for laid-back energy in a classic Moroccan city.

There’s plenty more to discover in Morocco and, most importantly, it’s generally kind on the pockets.
