Casablanca is a showcase for artistic craftsmanship in Morocco at Design Week (casablancadesignweek.com) until October 30.

Over 50 exhibitors present their creations at the first edition of the event spearheaded by galleries, cultural institutions and art shops in the city.

The aim is to join forces to show that creativity in Morocco goes well beyond the traditional kaftan or engraved table. The designers on show include Karim Tassi, Kenza Bennani, Brahim Boucheikha, Amine Bendriouich and the Houna collective, which conceived the event. Their creations range from chairs to wallpaper, from travel bags to wall tiles and all display the Moroccan touch.

Each object is explained in each stage of creation with a common attention to the link between craftsmanship and design. There is also a programme of conferences and round-table discussions hosted by the Cervantes Institute and Casablanca business school ESCA. Many of the events will also be broadcast live via the website. (ANSAmed).
