(AllAfrica) Three members of the Dutch-Moroccan community have made an official complaint to the United Nations Human Rights Committee against anti-Islam Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders. They accuse him of inciting hatred against Muslims.
They are being represented by Ties Prakken, the lawyer who represented a number of minority groups in the Dutch trial earlier this year of Mr Wilders for inciting hatred, discriminating against Muslims and insulting immigrants.
The Dutch court acquitted him on all counts and no further appeal is possible in the case in the Netherlands.
Ms Prakken has chosen to go to the UN committee because she thinks the move is more likely to succeed than going to the European Court of Human Rights. The UN treaty on civil rights, explicitly says that the state should protect citizens against incitement to hatred.
