Grain cargoes exported from the French port of Rouen, Europe’s biggest cereal-shipping hub, rose 1.8 percent in the week ended yesterday to a seven-month high as Moroccotook the most wheat in more than a year.
Outbound grain shipments were 223,966 metric tons of wheat from Nov. 10 to Nov. 16, the most since the last week of March, and up from 219,989 metric tons a week ago, the Seine River port said today in an e-mailed report.
Morocco was the leading destination with 145,886 tons of wheat, the biggest volume since at least August 2010 and compared with 86,562 tons the previous week, port data showed. Algeria, the biggest importer of French grain, took 52,500 tons, down from 97,602 tons a week earlier.
Rouen accounted for 45 percent ofFrance’s maritime grain exports in 2009-10, ahead of La Pallice on the Bay of Biscay, which shipped out 19 percent, according to data from national crops office FranceAgriMer.
