Rabat – Economy and Finance Minister, Salaheddine Mezouar, held, on Tuesday in Rabat, talks with U.S. assistant secretary for international finance, Charles Collyns, on bilateral cooperation.

The meeting focused also on Morocco’s expectations as part of Deauville Partnership, in view of the U.S. chairmanship of the G8 on 1 January 2012.

Mezouar highlighted, at the meeting, the new dynamics that Morocco currently sees after the approval of the new constitution and the forthcoming general election.

The Minister also presented the reforms undertaken by Morocco and the setting of various institutions dedicated to human rights, good governance and development under the new constitution.

Economically, Mezouar noted the achievements of the national economy, which experienced profound changes marked by the diversification of productive structures, the significant improvement in growth rate and the consolidation of resilience.

He also stressed that Morocco’s strategy of economic development is based on the diversification of sources of growth, through promoting the competitiveness, boosting infrastructure programmes and networks, as well as opening to the outside world and regional integration.

In this sense, he stressed that the Deauville Partnership is called on to play an important role in supporting Morocco’s macro-economic achievements and speed up its ongoing growth and development strategy.

Collyns said, in this regard, that his country wishes its presidency of the G8 would further foster the Moroccan-US relations.

In a statement to the press after the meeting, the U.S. official also said that his meeting with Mezouar focused on the reforms that Morocco has launched in various fields, as well as the difficult environment of the global economy.

Morocco was officially invited to join the Partnership Deauville in July 2011.
