European imports of vegetables from Non EU countries increased by 23% in volume and 11% in value.
FEPEX (based on Eurostat data) reveals that the EU imports fresh vegetables from third countries increased by 23% in volume (1.55 million tonnes) and 11% in value (1.602 million euros) in H1 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.
Morocco and Egypt are the main EU suppliers. Imports from Morocco totaled 482,571 tonnes (+ 13%) in the amount of 591.6 million euros (+ 10%), those from Egypt totaled 250,559 tons for 155.5 million euros.
Products: tomato is the No. 1 Moroccan vegetable imported with 247,152 tonnes (+ 8%) and EUR 249.6 million (+ 7%). Far behind the other vegetables including green beans with 92,615 tonnes (+ 8%). The main vegetables imported from Egypt are potatoes with 157.459 tonnes (+ 4%) and onions with 72.378 tons (+ 31%).
After Morocco and Egypt, Turkey is the 3rd country supplying to the EU with 237,918 tonnes (+ 3%), including potatoes accounted for 173,543 tonnes (+ 26%).
