For the First time in an Arab and African country, the 30th session of the Advisory Committee of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (ISMO) has met on Wednesday in Tangiers, with the participation of the member States’ representatives and several international organizations.
The meeting aims to define the strategic broad lines of ISMO action for next years and boost cooperation between member states in the area of control and security of maritime traffic.
ISMO director General Esteban Pacha Vicente said his organization has chosen Morocco to hold this session comes from the Kingdom’s interest and commitment to efforts aiming to secure maritime transport, particularly with regard to satellite communications between vessels and the supervisory bodies in the coastal countries.
He noted, in this sense, the setting up of the Tangier maritime traffic control centre (VTS) to monitor maritime transport across the Strait of Gibraltar.
These facilities provide high quality services to international maritime traffic and help reduce accidents affecting the marine and coastal environment, said Pasha.
IMSO is an intergovernmental organization that oversees certain public satellite safety and security communication services provided via the Inmarsat satellites.
