Feed Grains: Moroccan Wheat, Barley Production Hits 10 Year Low

Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Wednesday, July 6.

– Morocco’s wheat and barley production is forecast to be at its lowest in 10 years due to severe drought during the entire planting season, according to reports. Wheat production is expected to decline from 3.7 million tonnes in 2015/16 to 2.8 million tonnes in 2016/17 and barley is expected to fall from 1 million tonnes to 900,000 tonnes.

– Compound feed production in the EU reached 157.3 million tonnes in 2015, a .6 per cent increase from 2014, according to the European Feed Manufacturer’s Federation.

– US livestock producers are being encouraged to take advantage of the market low for feed grains and lock in prices, according to reports.

– Japan purchased 29,100 tonnes of feed wheat, according to Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture.

– Feed barley remained steady with top prices of C$3.40 to C$4.35 per bushel, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire. Feed wheat also remained steady with top prices ranging from C$5.75 to C$6.31 per bushel.
