Former Aztec Canavan wins event in Middle East

Former Palm Desert High School golfer Ross Canavan rallied from six shots behind at the start of the day to earn a one-shot victory in the Ras Al Khaimah Classic on the MENA Golf Tour in the United Arab Emirates.

Canavan finished the event with a 2-under 209 total in the 54-hole tournament, including a 69 on the final day.

Faycal Serghini of Morocco finished second, one shot behind Canavan. it was the first victory fro Canavan since he turned professional in January.

³This is my first tournament win as a professional and obviously I have every reason to feel great,” said

Canavan, who has dual American/English citizenship and was listed as an English play in the event.

The victory earned Canavan $9,000.
