Mississippi State University and the Mississippi Development Authority are hosting visiting officials from Morocco this week.

MDA spokesman Jeff Rent says officials from the Moroccan capital of Rabat are visiting Mississippi as part of an effort to build stronger economic ties and cultural relationships between the state and the Rabat region.

He says officials signed two agreements to cooperate in research, agriculture, forestry, transportation and energy and explore potential business opportunities.

The group is touring the state and has visited the Port of Gulfport, the Ingalls Shipbuilding Plant and the Mississippi State University campus since arriving Sunday. The university has a joint degree program with the International University of Rabat.

Rent also says the delegation paid for its own transportation to Mississippi. The group will return to Morocco Friday.
