Moroccan Interior Ministry said on Thursday that investigations on the busted Islamic State (IS) splinter cell on Feb. 18 revealed that it planned to launch attacks against the country using biological weapons.

Morocco’s Interior Ministry said last month that security services foiled “dangerous” IS terrorist attacks and arrested ten suspects, including a French national.

The mastermind of the cell was arrested inside a “safe house” in the city of El Jadida, about 190 km southwest of capital Rabat, where a considerable amount of arms and ammunition were seized, it added.

On-going investigations have found toxic and lethal biological substances on suspicious products captured during the raid, the ministry said in a statement.

These substances are considered by the relevant international bodies as dangerous biological weapons, as a small amount of these products can cause paralysis, destruction of the nervous system and death, it noted.

According to the same source, investigations also showed that the suspects have completed the preparation of these deadly products for their terrorist scheme against the Kingdom.
