Tourist-slayer D-Day

RABAT, Morocco — Adel al-Othmani — who on April 28 dressed like a foreigner so he could plant a bomb in a tourist hot spot, then detonated it with his cellphone, killing 17 — was sentenced to death yesterday by a Moroccan court.

Othmani and Hakim Dah, who was sentenced to life in prison, targeted the popular Argana cafe in Marrakech. The victims included eight French tourists, others from Britain, Portugal and Sweden, and Moroccan workers.

Four co-defendants who knew of the plan but failed to alert authorities were each given four years behind bars, while three others got two years apiece.

Morocco, a US ally, drew nearly 10 million tourists last year to its sandy beaches, desert, mountains and historic sites.
