Washington – The election of Morocco to the UN Security Council for a two-year term with an overwhelming majority vote “represents a vote of confidence by the international community and reflects the credibility Morocco enjoys in the international arena as a serious ally,” The U.S. Leadership Council for Human Rights said in a statement.
“The election of Morocco represents a vote of confidence by the international community and reflects the credibility Morocco enjoys in the international arena as a serious ally through its efforts in maintaining peace and security and especially in its involvement in peacekeeping operations in the African continent as well as through its the effective diplomacy,” the human-rights NGO said.
The Council added that it has been following with great interest the positive steps Morocco has made in the protection of Human Rights, freedom to demonstrate and the Constitutional reforms which add to Morocco’s commitment to democratize and distinguish itself in the midst of the Arab Spring.
It called on the international community to help support the Kingdom “in its stride to remain peaceful and secure and be an example to the countries in the region.”
