Morocco has strongly condemned what has been described as “the despicable and subversive acts of terrorism” taking place in Yemen, stressing that the north African country is concerned about the escalation of violence that will only cause the situation in the country to deteriorate, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a statement released yesterday, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation warned of the security escalations in Yemen saying it will lead to harming the spirit of consensus and positive cooperation.

The statement added that the Kingdom of Morocco “follows up with great concern the serious escalation of violence in Yemen, mainly the assassinations of political and military figures and security leaders, as well as explosions which affected a large number of other innocent citizens, the last of which targeted young men willing to join the police force”.

The ministry called on all Yemeni political forces to “work together to cut off the road in front of those seeking to sink Yemen into a cycle of violence and instability”.

The statement appealed to all “brotherly and friendly countries to provide aid and assistance to Yemen to overcome the current situation towards stability and prosperity”.

The Yemeni capital, Sanaa, has recently witnessed a series of assassinations targeting security and military officials and leaders of the Houthi group; the most prominent occurred when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the former President of the Joint Meeting Parties Mohammed Abdulmalik Al-Mutawakil in November killing him in Sanaa.

On Saturday, unidentified gunmen assassinated two members of the Houthis in the capital Sanaa, one of them was the head of the Revolutionary Medical Committee in a military hospital in Sanaa, Mohammed Mutahher Shami.
