A UAE company plans to build a cigarettes factory in partnership with local investors in Morocco to take advantage of high domestic consumption, a newspaper in the North African Arab country reported on Tuesday.

‘Hespress’ Arabic language daily said the Dubai-based Al Rashideen trading company has set up a joint venture with Moroccan investors under the name “the UAE-Moroccan manufacturing and distribution company”.

The paper said the new venture had already obtained permission from the Moroccan industry ministry to set up the factory in the northern Moroccan port of Tangier.

“The factory will be built on an area of six hectares (60,000 square metres) near the port in Tangiers,” the report said without mentioning investments involved.

It said the ministry’s licence also allows the new venture to set up storage units in more than 20 Moroccan cities and nearly 38,000 sale points for its products.
