RABAT, April 25 (Xinhua) — Morocco and the European Union (EU) signed a letter of intent on Friday, under which the EU will grant Morocco a donation of 60 million Euros (about 83 million U.S. dollars) to develop the country’s agriculture sector, the official news agency MAP reported.
The grant, which will be paid over four years starting from 2014, will support the Pillar II of the Moroccan Green Plan, aiming to contribute to improving the income of small farmers by taking into consideration the preservation of natural resources.
The letter of intent was signed by Moroccan Agriculture Minister Aziz Akhannouch and Jerzy Bogdan Plewa, director general for agriculture and rural development at the European Commission.
In 2010 the EU donated 70 million Euros (around 96 million dollars) to Morocco to fund to support its agricultural policy.
