Rabat, Oct 7, 2011 –
Mauritania’s president, Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz, has voiced hope that the Great Maghreb will be built in peace.
“We hope that we will be able to build the Great Maghreb, to which the peoples of the region aspire, in peace,” Ould Abdelaziz told the satellite TV channel Médi1TV on Sunday.
The Maghreb, he went on, can only be built by the Maghrebans, hoping that the downfall of the Tunisian and Libyan regimes will contribute to consolidating this union.
On the Sahara, Ould Abdelaziz renewed his country’s “neutral” position, saying Mauritania, which attends the negotiations on the Sahara conflict, hopes that a solution will be reached for this problem.
