RABAT, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — Morocco announced on Saturday he will dispatch urgent humanitarian aid to Sudan to help people affected by recent floods.

According to MAP state news agency, “King Mohammed VI ordered to send humanitarian aid for the populations hit by the catastrophic floods that have stricken the Republic of Sudan, mainly the Khartoum region.”

Military planes will deliver the aid, which includes tents, medicines, food, water pumps, generators and first aid material, the report said.

Flash floods and heavy rains since the beginning of August have killed dozens and left many people homeless in Khartoum State, Dongola region and Wadi Halfa.

“The rains and floods have destroyed the homes and belongings of thousands of families,” Jean-Christophe Sandoz, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) delegation in Sudan, said in a statement on Saturday.
