The CWA is getting ready for International Day on Saturday June 22.
Without giving too much away, CWA international officer Marion Collier said that this year’s nation of focus, the kingdom of Morocco struck her as a nation very open to different ideas and culture, possibly due to its central location between Africa and Europe.
The official language for the Islamic nation is Arabic, but residents also speak French and English.
Mrs Collier didn’t know much about Morocco until she went along to the University of New England’s International Week and became fascinated after talking to delegate (and Wellington’s guest speaker) Dr Driss El Malki Berrada who is president of the Australian Moroccan Sahara Association.
“In many ways they are similar to us,” she said.
“Even down to things like the climate.”
International Day kicks off at 1pm on Saturday and people are encouraged to come along and enjoy traditional Moroccan delicacies for afternoon tea at $5 per person entry.
