Greetings Letters Exchanged Between HM King Mohammed VI, Swedish King On Occasion of 250th Anniversary of First Friendship Treaty

HM King Mohammed VI and HM King Carl Gustaf R. of Sweden, exchanged greetings letters on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the signing, on May 16, 1763, of the first treaty between the two kingdoms.

In a congratulations letter sent, on this occasion, to the Swedish sovereign, HM the King expressed his congratulations and His warmest wishes of health and happiness to the Swedish Sovereign, and more progress and prosperity to the Swedish people.

The Sovereign said the signing of the “Treaty of Peace, Commerce and Navigation”, under which the Kingdom of Morocco offered protection to Swedish vessels, has certainly heralded a new era of friendship relations between Morocco and Sweden.

“The commemoration of this historic event comes from our common desire to consolidate these relations to reach their highest level, in the interests of the two peoples and to promote the noble values of democracy, freedom, peace and cohabitation among religions and civilizations,” the message said.

HM the King also expressed pride in the special bonds of friendship and mutual respect, expressing his firm determination to continue to work together with HM King Carl Gustaf R. and his government to deepen dialogue and cooperation between Morocco and Sweden, and a give a new impetus to bilateral relations based on cooperation and solidarity.

In a similar message, the Swedish Monarch expressed his sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people.

“On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the signing of our peace treaty of commerce and navigation, the first bilateral agreement concluded in 1763 between our two countries, we would like to present our most sincere congratulations to Your Majesty and the people of Morocco, “said King Carl Gustaf R.
