Rabat –
The Moroccan police has dismantled two extremist cells whose members were active in the small towns of Zghenghen, Beni Boughafer, Selouane, Ferkhana and Beni Chiguer, in northeastern Morocco.
Based on investigations led by the General directorate of national territory monitoring (DST), the police has dismantled two cells espousing extremist ideology, active in Zghenghen, Beni Boughafer, Selouane, Ferkhana and Beni Chiguer, under the name of “Al Mouahidine” and “Attaouhid”, says a release of the interior ministry.
The cells members have perpetrated a series of robberies and were in touch with extremist people in northern Mali on behalf of a network specialized in brainwashing and in sending volunteers to fight in the Sahel region, says the ministry recalling that this network had been dismantled in November 2012.
The two cells, comprising two former convicts, sued for terror charges, had also established close ties with extremist circles abroad, the release goes on.
The alleged members of the two cells will be referred to the general prosecutor after the interrogation is completed, says the source.
