Rabat – Morocco explores all hypotheses about the incidents that occurred on Sunday in the southern city of Dakhla, and pursues investigations carefully and in serenity, said, on Wednesday, Communications Minister, spokesman for the Government.

“For now, we think it is hooliganism. But we do not rule out the possibility that there are other hypotheses to explore,” Khalid Naciri told reporters following the weekly cabinet meeting.

The incidents have claimed seven lives, including two members of security forces, and caused serious material damage.

Eight individuals were arrested for their alleged involvement in these incidents. Others are wanted in order to bring them to justice.

The Interior Ministry had earlier said that the situation in Dakhla is quiet and that the population lives in peace and serenity after those incidents.

“Obviously, what happened was not spontaneous. Certainly there are parties that operate behind the scenes,” Naciri said, adding that the government will accuse nobody until it will have had evidence.

The government has strongly denounced the criminal acts, voicing its commitment to take all measures necessary to preserve security and stability in the southern provinces.
