United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday (April 8th) called for urgent international efforts to end the Western Sahara conflict, AFP reported.
“The rise of instability and insecurity in and around the Sahel requires an urgent settlement of this long-standing dispute,” Ban told the UN Security Council.
“All governments consulted raised serious concerns over the risk that the fighting in Mali could spill over into neighbouring countries and contribute to radicalising the Western Saharan refugee camps,” Ban added, referring to the recent trip of UN envoy Christopher Ross to the region.
