GDF Suez has announced that its Médiouna wastewater treatment plant in Casablanca has been officially inaugurated by the King of Morocco. The plant is designed to serve a population of 40,000 people, treating wastewater for re-use in agricultural irrigation.
The plant is the first such facility in North Africa to use a membrane filtration process, and is aimed at helping to protect the Oued Hassar from wastewater discharge from Médiouna. The site is part of a larger investment programme in the Casablanca region, aimed at conserving water resources and better protecting the environment from wastewater discharge.
“This inauguration by the King of Morocco in the presence of the President of the French Republic and our CDG and RMA Watanya partners, is an honour for [the] Group. It demonstrates the support of the Moroccan and French authorities for the Group’s commitment to being the long-term key industrial and commercial partner in Morocco,” said GDF Suez CEO and chairman, Gerard Méstallet.
