(ANSAmed) – ROME, MARCH – Moroccan film maker Leila Kilani won this year’s edition of the FrancoFilm Festival in Rome. The festival of francophone cinema held annually in the Italian capital, at the Centre San Luigi dei Francesi, the city’s French cultural institute, wrapped up on Friday after the screening of 20 movies seen by the official jury and by a popular jury.
The first prize went to “Sur la planche” by Kilani, a movie which has already received a number of awards and tells the story of a gang of Moroccan ‘bad girls’ who hunt down men at night to seduce them and steal from them. The official jury chose the movie for ‘the maturity of the film’s language, built up in pursuit of ‘modernity’, the set and use of the camera, its regard on women and depiction of a painful world filled with expectations’.
“A pas de loup” by Belgian filmmaker Olivier Ringer received a special mention while the Romanian “Undeva la palilula” by Silviu Purcarete won the ‘Own Air’ prize, the free online distribution of the film for two years and funding for its promotion. The popular jury’s prize went to ‘Monsieur Lazhar’ by Philippe Falardeau.(ANSAmed).
