Businesswoman Nana Lampton of Louisville has been named the honorary consul of the Kingdom of Morocco for Kentucky.
Her appointment has been approved by the U.S. State Department. Lampton is chairman and CEO of Hardscuffle, Inc., and American Life and Accident Insurance Company of Kentucky.
Lampton will be the liaison in Kentucky for the Embassy of Morocco in Washington, D.C. She will be responsible for developing cultural and business relationships between Kentucky and Morocco.
An honorary consul is an American citizen who has been, at the request of a foreign government, accredited by the U.S. State Department to have certain official privileges and responsibilities to act as a representative for a foreign country, as provided in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963.
Lampton’s interest in Morocco grew out of friendships with key Moroccan diplomatic officials, including Rachad Bouhlal, former ambassador to Germany and now Moroccan ambassador to the United States.
