New York – Morocco called, on Monday in New York, for the setting up of a fund to help developing countries fight against non-communicable diseases.
Speaking during the UN high-level meeting on NCDs at the UN headquarters, Health Minister, Yasmina Baddou, reaffirmed Morocco¹s commitment to collective efforts by the international community to prevent and fight against those diseases of long-duration.
The setting up of a fund to help developing countries face the challenges relating to NCDs will contribute to implementing the political declaration that will be adopted by the end of the meeting, she added.
On this occasion, the Minister shed light on Morocco’s efforts to curb NCDs through the adoption of the 2009-2011 National Plan for cancer prevention and control, which benefited from the support of the Lalla Salma association for the fight against cancer.
She also showcased Morocco¹s national plans for the prevention of diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases with the aim being to reduce mortality and improve the living conditions of patients and their relatives.
Morocco adopted the guidelines of the World Health Organisation which were listed in its2008-2013 action plan as part of a world strategy to fight NCDs, underscored the Minister.
HRH the princess Lalla Salma, Chairwoman of the Lalla Salma Association for the Fight against Cancer (ALSLC), leads the Moroccan delegation to this important event that is held on September 19-20 within the framework of the 66th UN General Assembly.
