Conservationist Jane Bayley, from Sarnau, set up the Moroccan Beekeeping Project to help protect the native yellow bee and improve honey production in the North African country.
Following an event last year at the Small World Theatre in Cardigan, she is now holding another fundraising evening, also at the same venue, at 7pm this Saturday.
It will have live music, dancing, food, a bar, and stalls with a range of special products which are either bee-related or contain special Moroccan ingredients.
Jane said: “Honey is very important in Morocco. There are many different types, some from plants unique to Morocco, some of which are highly therapeutic, a Moroccan equivalent to manuka.”
Her passion for Morocco began in 1993 while she was lecturing at Trinity St David.
Initially she visited as a researcher on wildlife conservation and sustainable farming, then she developed a module on Morocco and sustainability which involved annual field trips to the country.
The focus of the project over the past year has been helping a recently formed beekeepers’ co-operative in Morocco, Atlas Co-operative for the Environment, by assisting with training, equipment, marketing and product development.
She is now organising a trip for UK beekeepers to visit Morocco in January.
