Then on Oct. 19 the main event begins and this year it will see a change of structure. The buy-in for the three-day tournament has dropped from €3,000 to €1,350 and features a guarantee of 2 million dirhams (€179,501) made by management.
Another change to the main event structure is that it will now allow players to re-enter.
Friday’s play kicks off at 2 p.m. with players sitting down to a starting stack of 50,000 and 45-minute blind levels. Day 2 also begins at 2 p.m. but the final table will start off an hour later on Sunday.
Cash games are offered 24 hours a day and new and old side events of various formats and buy-ins continue throughout including another highlight, the two-day, €2,700 High Roller with re-entry, which begins on Oct. 20 at 9 p.m.
The Marrakech Poker Open action will come to an end on Sunday, Oct. 21 when a new main event champion is crowned. Mohamed Ali Houssam was last year’s champion after he survived a total field of 247 including a final table which was expanded from six to nine in order to accommodate big poker names such as Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Jonathan Duhamel and Arnaud Mattern.
