Rabat, Morocco – Morocco has donated 45 tons of foodstuffs and other humanitarian aid to victims of the flooding in Niger, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday. In a statement posted on its website, the ministry said the aid also consists of blankets and medicine.
Three Moroccan cargo planes ferried the aid to Niamey Sunday and Monday.
In a statement, Niger’s Interior Minister Abdou Labo thanked the Moroccan authorities for the assistance.
‘The Kingdom of Morocco is a great friend of Niger and the 45 tons of humanitarian aid are living proof of that,’ Labo said, adding that the Kingdom intervenes any time Niger is in difficult situations.
The flooding in Niger has left at least 124 dead and displaced more than 64,000 people in 18 of the country’s 38 states, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
