A joint declaration of the intent to found a bilateral energy partnership was recently announced by Germany’s Federal Minister of Economics and Technology and Morocco’s Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and the Environment.

Their partnership will primarily be focused on the continued growth and expansion of renewable energy and the political backing of the Desertec project. The partnership will also help to expand power grids, energy efficiency, and energy research.

“The German Government welcomes the energy partnership between Germany and Morocco. Morocco offers especially favourable conditions for wind and solar energy. With the only electricity line across to Europe, and with its ambitious plans to expand renewable energy, Morocco is an ideal partner for Germany and can serve as a suitable host for the launch of Desertec projects. Here, Morocco can benefit from the wealth of experience of German technology-based companies, especially in the field of renewable energy. The energy partnership will generate substantial advantages for the energy security of both countries.”
