· From January to June this year, shipments to the US, Germany, Ecuador, the Netherlands and Colombia accounted for 75% of all Lambayeque exports.
· Countries such as Poland, Morocco, Bahamas and Yemen appear as new destinations for the products from this Peruvian region, meaning that, despite everything, “there is diversification”, points out AREX.

As has been the case since the beginning of 2012, by the end of the first semester Lambayeque exports suffered a 24.13% fall after totalling US$ 104 million in value compared to the US$ 140 million from the same period in the previous season and experiencing a 17.73% drop in volume, with shipments reaching 54,000 tonnes.

In the case of traditional exports, they fell 13.4% with a value of 59 million dollars. Non-traditional exports dropped 30.7%.

This information was released by the Head of the Information and Research Unit from the Regional Exporters Association – AREX Lambayeque, Carlos Ypanaqué Estrada, who reported that according to figures from Infotrade, the main products whose exports fell more than 50% include: Whole paprika (-83%), avocados (-73%) and lemon juice (-60%). “Canned peppers fell 48%,” he indicated.

The regional exports union argues that the contraction in regional exports is due to lower demand from countries such as Spain, the Netherlands, Chile and Puerto Rico, which has decreased by 64%, 57%, 59% and 74% respectively.

Meanwhile, Ypanaqué Estrada informed that the US, Germany, Ecuador, the Netherlands and Colombia were the main target markets for Lambayeque during the first semester of the year. “Altogether, exports to these countries accounted for 75% of all Lambayeque exports.”

Meanwhile, Poland, Morocco, Bahamas and Yemen became new destinations for Lambayeque products, such as stick beans, avocado, jalapeños and rice. This indicates that, despite the falls in exports, “Lambayeque is diversifying their products’ destination countries even more,” commented Ypanaqué Estrada.
