‘Royal Moroccan hospitality,’
Maariv’s correspondent Noam Nir reported from Morocco on the visit of
a delegation of Israelis from the World Federation of Moroccan Judaism
who came at the invitation of King Mohammed VI to celebrate a year
since his coming to power. The group met with ministers and brought a
greetings letter from Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The group said that no matter where they live in the world, Moroccan Jews
will always be Moroccan. Morocco’s foreign minister pointed out that
Moroccan Jews in Israel had the right to participate in the
constitutional referendum in 2011.

Two weeks ago, Israeli left-wing activist Ofer Bronstein participated
in the annual conference of the Islamic Movement, the largest party in
Morocco, which opposes normalization with Israel. There Bronstein
talked with Hamas Politburo Chief Khaled Mashaal. ‘The two chatted and
were seen smiling,’ Nir reported. Mashaal, unlike other Hamas members
who have agreed to be interviewed by Israelis [including yours truly –
OH], Mashaal has adamantly opposed speaking with any Israelis [to the
best of my knowledge – OH]. But some members of the Islamic party got
angry when they learned about Bronstein’s Israeli identity and the
chairman of the organizing committee resigned from his position.
