Your passport to Morocco awaits with a 1940s inspired “Casablanca” theme for the annual Women’s Auxiliary fundraising gala to benefit Wellness Place Cancer Education and Support.

“A Night in Casablanca … Your Passport to Morocco” will be Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Chicago Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., in Chicago. The fundraising event includes dinner, live auction, music and dancing and is hoped to garner more than $100,000 for Wellness Place cancer programs and services.

The price per guest is $250, with cocktail hour beginning at 7 p.m. and a seated dinner at 8 p.m. A live auction will be followed by dancing to The Stu Hirsh Orchestra.Bringing in more than $2 million since its creation, the auxiliary gala has been a key component in raising awareness and funds for Wellness Place, located in Palatine. This year’s event is chaired by two Barrington residents and auxiliary members, Judy Benkendorf and Kimberly Gray.

A special attraction of this year’s event will be the presentation of the Pat and Vince Foglia Commitment and Loyalty Award to Peter Economos of North Barrington, who has been a Wellness Place board
member and supporter for many years.

Sponsor donations enable Wellness Place to underwrite expenses for the gala, ensuring that 100 percent of the evening’s proceeds from ticket sales, auctions and raffle go directly to the organization to benefit individuals and families from the community, who are facing cancer.

Sponsors include Pat and Vince Foglia, BMO Harris Bank, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Myrna Porter, Long & Co. Jewelers, Donna and Carl Stapleton, Walgreens, Astor Asset Management, and pl8 restaurant.

Wellness Place offers professional support free to individuals, families and caregivers affected by cancer. Programs and services help manage emotional and physical responses to treatment, sort through options and side effects, formulate questions for doctors, and communicate matters to family and employers.

Specialized services are available for young children and teens. The facility is at 1619 W. Colonial Parkway in Palatine, and serves the surrounding Northwest suburban Chicago area.
