Intel Corporation announced Taha Khalifa’s promotion to the role of Regional General Manager of Intel in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

United Arab Emirates: In a bid to bolster market presence, Taha will lead Intel’s business operations across the region, working closely with governments, NGOs, and industry-leaders to support the development of ICT capabilities in the region and drive Intel’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. Based in Dubai, Taha is responsible for managing six Intel offices spread across Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

“Providing technology access and ICT skills is a cornerstone to economic growth in today’s competitive global marketplace. The MENA region is home to a young, vibrant and cosmopolitan population with high expectations of computing devices and constant connectivity, and we are committed to helping our nations equip their citizens with the right ICT skills in order to realize full potential in today’s knowledge economy,” commented Taha Khalifa on his new role. “I’m excited about building on the success of the ICT industry and contributing to its growth in the region.”

Taha is by no means new to Intel; having first joined Intel in the United States over 17 years ago, he held a variety of senior engineering, marketing, and management positions. Before assuming his current role, Taha was the Regional Director for the Reseller Channel Organization (RCO) in the MENA region where he successfully grew the channel business year-over-year. Preceding that role, Taha assumed the position of Intel Egypt Country Manager, where he lead Intel’s local business operations and successfully established Intel’s presence in the highly growing telecommunications and consumer segments.

In other recent changes, Samir Al-Schamma’s shift to the newly created role of Director of Software and Services for Intel in the Middle East, Turkey & Africa region (META) reflects yet another stride for Intel towards moving into the solution space and providing hardware features that provide value-added services to consumers in the region. An ICT industry veteran with extensive experience in the Middle East, Europe and the United States, Samir will be responsible for establishing and driving Intel’s services and solutions offerings in the region. Samir’s focus is to work with and enable the software ecosystem to deliver solutions based on Intel technologies that support the local usage models and needs.

“Today we are expanding our capacities in the META region to help consumers and businesses experience the ‘compute continuum’ and realize ever-improving power and performance of connected devices,” commented Samir Al Schamma. “The explosion of computing has created endless opportunities for the development of interesting applications that deliver unique user experiences. Opening software and services development units in the META region reflects our commitment to investing in the market’s IT infrastructure and I look forward to closely working with local and regional partners to harness opportunities across the region”.

Having completed over two decades at Intel prior to this role, coupled with a strong understanding of the region, Samir was the Regional General Manager for Intel in the Middle East and North Africa, a position he had held for four years after having been the General Manager for the GCC region. He successfully formed a world class organization that is now spread-out across the region from Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Under his leadership, Intel launched and evolved the Intel Digital Transformation Initiative for the Middle East, a multi-year program focused on building human capacity in the Arab World by inspiring local innovation and competitiveness through research, education and collaboration.
