Rabat – Minister of Economy and Finance, Nizar Baraka, said Thursday that economic growth in Morocco continues on a positive trend despite unfavorable weather conditions and slower growth of some export sectors.
Baraka, quoted by El Khalfi speaking at a press conference after the weekly cabinet meeting, said during a presentation before the Council of Government on the situation of the national economy during the first half of 2012, noted the growing trade deficit of 6.6 billion dirhams, that is 7.1%, due to the appreciation in the value of energy imports. Baraka said, moreover, that revenues from Moroccans living abroad increased slightly by 0.4%, while tourism revenues were down about 2%, adding that those of investments increased 5.4% (739 million dirhams). For their part, spending increased significantly from 33.4% (1.2 billion dirhams) compared to the same period last year, according to the minister.
