Rabat – The UK Foreign Office minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, has reiterated his country’s support for a UN-sponsored negotiated political solution to the Sahara issue.
The UK takes great interest in the reforms undertaken by Morocco, Mr. Burt said during his talks, on Wednesday, with speaker of the House of Representatives, Karim Ghellab, a house statement said.
Ghellab briefed the UK minister on the latest developments in the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity and the reasons for the Kingdom’s withdrawal of its confidence in the personal envoy of UN Secretary-General, Christopher Ross.He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to the negotiation process in order to reach a final solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
During the meeting, Ghellab stressed the need to revitalize the Maghreb Union, especially after the profound changes experienced by the region.
The two sides also discussed issues of common interest and means to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas, the statement said.
