Morocco: HRH Prince Moulay Rachid Presides in Rabat Over Inauguration of New Down’s Syndrome People Centre
Rabat — HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, Honorary President of the Moroccan Association of Support and Assistance to People with Down’s Syndrome (AMSAT), presided, on Friday afternoon in Rabat, over a ceremony to inaugurate the new Centre for people with Down’s syndrome.
The Centre was named by HM King Mohammed VI “HRH Prince Moulay Rachid Centre”, in recognition of HRH the prince’s commitment with this Association.
HRH prince Moulay Rachid toured the premises of the Centre, which is part of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) programme in the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer region.
Inaugurated on the occasion of 30th Anniversary of AMSAT, the new Centre has three floors, which house, inter alia, rooms specialized in speech therapy, physiotherapy, psychomotor education, psychological follow-up and follow-up to educational integration of children with Down’s syndrome.
The Centre provides care to people with Down’s syndrome mainly from disadvantaged backgrounds, from birth to adulthood. Care includes paramedical rehabilitation services, psychological and socio-educational support and socio-vocational training.
Built on an area of 1,000 square metres, the structure accommodates 300 beneficiaries who receive care rehabilitation and about fifty in training workshops in the fields of cooking and gardening, in addition to a plastic art workshop.
Afterwards, HRH the prince launched the AMSAT website: www.amsat.ma, then presided over the opening of an exhibition organized in the Centre, with the participation of painters.
