Rabat – Morocco continues to endeavour to find a political solution to the Sahara issue, Minister delegate to the Foreign Minister, Youssef Amrani said on Friday in Rabat.
Speaking at a conference held by the Allal El Fassi foundation on the Moroccan Sahara, Amrani added that Morocco’s autonomy proposal for its southern provinces has been welcomed by influential countries and was described on multiple occasions as “positive and credible”.
The withdrawal of confidence from the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara is due to serious deviations in the negotiation process, recalled Amrani, noting that Morocco has always supported UN-led efforts to find a political solution to the dispute.
Amrani also voiced hope to see the Maghreb union reinvigorated, adding that partners in the world stress the need for a regional integration that can enable facing security challenges in the region, notably those relating to drug trafficking and terrorism.
