VERMILLION — South Dakota women’s tennis coach Malcolm Gilreath has that Hafsa Laraibi of Casablanca, Morocco and Milica Pavlovic from Belgrade, Serbia, have signed NLIs to continue their athletic and academic careers at USD, starting in the fall of 2012.
“With the strong group of returning players and Hafsa and Milica joining the team, we will certainly be deep and be able to compete at all flights in the lineup,” Gilreath said.Laraibi is a 5-foot-5 player from Lycee Lyautey School in Casablanca, Morocco, where she placed in the top 10 in the country in the U18 category. She represents the RUC team which is ranked fifth in the nation. She has been ranked as high as 874th in the International Tennis Federation Junior Rankings and has been consistently one of the top junior players in Morocco. She also participated in basketball and track.“Hafsa has played in ITF tournaments in numerous countries and is a steady performer,” Gilreath said. “She has also competed in other sports in Morocco with very good results.”Pavlovic has been ranked as high as 16th on Serbia’s senior list. She ranks 285th on the Tennis Europe Junior ranking list. She placed first at the Serbian Cup and was part of the national championship team. Pavlovic, who competes for the First Basketball Sports High School in Belgrade, also placed second at the Open Championship of Arandjelovac and third place at several tournaments across Europe during a decorated career in junior tennis.“Milica has consistently been a top player in Serbia and is a good overall athlete,” Gilreath said. “She brings a strong desire to compete and will certainly perform well both on the court and in the classroom.”
