Oujda — HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, inaugurated, On Friday in Oujda, the “Mohammed VI” mosque, wherein His Majesty performed the Friday prayer.
Stretching over a surface area of 12,000 square meters with a hosting capacity of 3000 faithful, the new religious monument was completed for a total cost of 60 million dirhams funded by the Ministry of Endowments (Habous) and Islamic Affairs.
The new mosque, one of the largest in the Kingdom, houses two prayer halls for men and women, accommodations for the Imam and the Muezzin, a library and a hall for the teaching of the Koran.
The Mosque’s design reflects the authenticity of Morocco’s time-honoured architecture that combines both functional and esthetic aspects offering the faithful conditions conducive for worship.
The new religious edifice is also part of a policy that provides for building mosques while ensuring their harmonious distribution across the Kingdom.
The mosque inaugurated by the Sovereign is a first stage in a large project whose second stage provides for the building of an administrative and cultural complex of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. The complex will be completed for a total cost of 90 million dirhams by the end of 2012 and will notably include a library for people with special needs, a space for children, a conference hall and the headquarters of the delegation of Islamic affairs and endowments.
